If you are creative and enjoy talking about and exploring art, then this subject is for you!
Key Stage 3
Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups who all follow the same project. The work is divided into 3 units-
Unit 1:Line and tone- observational drawing, tonal drawing and qualities in paint and oil pastels
Unit 2: Looking at different patterns from different cultures and creating their own response
Unit 3: Developing their design and numeracy skills through lettering and graffiti art
Work is assessed formally every half term and there is a 1 hour observational drawing exam at the end of the year.
Key Stage 4
Art is fun but also involves a lot of hard work. 100% commitment is required if you’re to guarantee success. Past pupils have gone to enjoy careers in Photography, set design, typography, fashion and lecturing to name but a few. All classes are taught in mixed ability and lessons are taught to the strength of individuals. All pupils sit the same exam tier.
Examining Board- WJEC Qualification- GCSE
The course is split into 60% course work and 40% examination. Students will have to work consistently over the two years to produce a portfolio that will give them a good grade. You will study Art and Design in general and can produce your work through a range of mediums such as Graphics, Textiles and Fashion, plus 3D Design to name a few. The final exam counts for 40% so you will choose one question and follow the same process as above, only under time constraint and exam conditions.
